Car catches fire inside downtown library parking garage

News

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The Allen County Public Library was briefly evacuated mid-morning Friday after a car caught fire in its subterranean parking garage.

A car caught fire inside the Allen County Public Library parking garage around 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called around 9:30 a.m. to the downtown’s library’s underground garage off West Wayne Street.

The garage was filled with smoke, which leaked into the library itself. The smoke triggered the library’s alarms, and the library was evacuated.

Once it was learned that the fire was in the garage, patrons were allowed back into the library.

Fire crews extinguished the fire in the car quickly. The car – a white Buick Regal – was pulled from the garage. It appeared to have heavy fire damage to its front end.

No one was injured.
