FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – These two teams already met down at Lucas Oil Stadium this year – but only one can have a chance to get back.
Snider advances on in the Class 6A playoffs with the commanding win over Homestead, 37-0.
The Panthers also beat the Spartans back in week five of the season, 52-31. The game was much closer than the score would indicate as quarterback Jiya Wright and the rest of the Homestead team rushed for 210 yards in that contest. They were held to -5 yards on the ground on Friday evening.
Snider forced five turnovers and Ethan Hoover accounted for two interceptions along with a fumble recovery. Lawrence Johnson also intercepted a pass. On offense, Christian Covington rushed for 139 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Michael Haupert finished the night 7-of-12 passing for 125 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Michael Ledo Jr. had the lone receiving touchdown on two catches for 42 yards.
For Homestead, Wright finished with -10 yards rushing on 20 attempts. (Sacks are factored into rushing yards.) He finished 16-of-27 through the air for 145 yards. Conrad Keszei had seven receptions for 74 yards and Tevin Taylor had six snags for 58 yards.
The Panthers outgained the Spartans 369-140.
Snider faces Carroll next week. Homestead finished the season 8-2 with their only two blemishes coming against the Panthers.
