Neighbors send prayers after fiery crash kills two people

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Charred pavement and debris is the only clue that something terrible happened in the 3700 block of Stellhorn Road Sunday evening. The car that burned with two people inside after crashing is long gone, but emotions are still raw.

"I've seen some accidents before, but that was far worse than anything I've ever seen in my life," said Flora Hughes.

Hughes lives across the street from where the crash happened. She saw the car fire right after it started, only learning about the victims later on.

"Watching everybody work, putting the fire out. People were gathering around and I knew it was really serious once the caution tape went up and the tarp was on the car, that said it all right there," Hughes added.

So far, nothing about the female and male juvenile who died has been released publicly. Officers said they lost control on the icy road and crashed into another car before it caught on fire. Neighbors like Flora say crashes have happened on Stellhorn, but never as bad as this.

"If you've never seen anything like that, it really does something to you," explained Hughes.

Seeing the crash scene shook Flora so much she called her own kids to make sure they were okay. Now she is praying for everyone involved.

"You don't have to know someone personally to feel like I did. I didn't know who they were, what the situation was. It's just about showing some compassion for people and just pray for everybody."

WANE 15 reached out to the Allen County Coroner's Office. We were told it would be a few days before the victims are identified.
