FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne will welcome 2019 with a ball drop and fireworks.
The 3rd annual Fort Wayne New Year's Eve Ball Drop will be held Dec. 31 at Parkview Field. There, inside the stadium for the first time, an 8-foot illuminated ball with a LED marquee will fall as the clock strikes midnight and fireworks blast off.
Organizers of the growing event promise a bigger and better version this year.
"The Fort Wayne Ball Drop event adds to the list of many exciting developments happening in the downtown area, and encourages visitors and locals alike to make our city a destination experience," organizers said. "This event provides a unique opportunity for our community to be a part of this exciting new tradition in downtown Fort Wayne."
With the free, all ages ball drop happening inside Parkview Field (the ball was dropped outside the main entrance at the corner of West Brackenridge and Ewing streets last year), a large heated tent will be available inside the concourse and will feature face painting, balloon tying, and a food eating contest. Separate 21 and over parties inside the Lincoln Financial Event Center and the Suite Level Lounge, both with DJs, will require tickets.
Guests can also send their New Year's resolutions to Fort Wayne Ball Drop on Instagram and see them on the Parkview Field video board inside the ballpark.
The Fort Wayne New Year's Eve Ball Drop begins at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 and runs until 12:15 a.m.
