Homestead girls soccer looking for first state title in program history

The Homestead girls soccer team will be looking to earn the program’s first state when the Spartans battle Carmel for the 3A crown on Saturday night in Indianapolis.

The 3A titte game is set for 6 p.m. at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium.

This marks the fourth state finals appearance for Homestead, the last coming in 2001.

Defensively, goaltender Samantha Castaneda is yielding just 0.62 goals a game while racking up 12 shutouts this season.

The Spartans have scored 105 goals this season while giving up just 14.

Homestead beat Valparaiso 2-1 at the South Bend St. Joseph semi-state last Saturday to advance.

Carmel enters the match 19-1-2 overall with nine state titles to its credit. Homestead is 18-3 overall.
