Blackhawk Christian ready to make history

High School Sports

Blackhawk Christian will be looking to punch their ticket to state on Saturday as the 1A no. 1 Braves (26-2) will face 1A no. 3 Lafayette Central Catholic (24-4) at semi-state in Elkhart.

The game at Elkhart’s North Gymnasium is set for 4 p.m. The 3A semi-state game between Marion and Culver Academy will follow.

The Braves are seeking the program’s second semi-state title, with their only semi-state championship coming in 2004. The Braves went on to fall in the 1A state title game that year 69-54 to a Waldron team that finished 27-0 under coach Jason Delaney.

The winner of Saturday’s 1A semi-state advances to the state title game at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

BCHS is coming off a 77-39 whipping of 1A no. 7 Argos in the regional title game last week. Sophomore Caleb Furst led the way with 25 points.
