2/26 Boys Basketball Sectionals – Opening Night

In a battle of tri-SAC champions Northrop knocked out Carroll in Waterloo on Tuesday night while Huntington North toppled Homestead to headline the opening night of bous sectional play on Tuesday.

In 4A action at DeKalb it was Northrop beating Carroll 41-31 behind Isaac Anderson’s 13 points and Sydney Curry’s 10. Dan McKeeman led Carroll with 12 points. Northrop advances to face DeKalb at 6 p.m. on Friday.

In 4A action at Wayne High School Huntington North avenged a five-point loss to Homestead in the season opener to knock out the Spartans 48-34. The win by Huntington North snaps Homestead’s streak at five consecutive sectional titles. Huntington North was led by IUPUI recruit Sawyer Stoltz with 20 points while Zak Krueger paced the Spartans with 12. The Vikings advance to face South Side at 6 p.m. Friday in the Highlight Zone “Game of the Week.”

After losing to Elkhart Memorial last week to split the NLC regular season title, Warsaw bounced back with a 65-50 win at the Elkhart Central sectional on Tuesday night. Jaylen Reese led Warsaw with 17 points while Nolan Groninger added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Tigers advance to face face Elkhart Central at 6 p.m. on Friday.

In 3A action at Paul Bateman Gymnasium in Garrett it was Angola besting Concordia 43-39 in the first game of the night. Joel Knox led Angola with 10 points while Dyer Ball added 8. The Hornets now face Garrett at 6 p.m. on Friday. In nightcap on Tuesday it was New Haven bested NE8 rival Leo 54-40. The Bulldogs move on to play Woodlan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Down in Decatur it was Norwell besting Mississinewa 60-40 while Heritage beat Bishop Luers 61-55. Norwell was paced by Will Geiger with 18 points and Drew Federspiel with 17. For Heritage, Alec Burton and Jaydon Harris each scored 16 while Cameron Mitchell added 15. Luers was led by Naylon Thompson with 24 points. Norwell now faces Marion on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by Bellmont against Heritage.

In 2A play in Butler host Eastside knocked out Canterbury 54-48 in the first game of the evening. The Blazers were led by Alex Yoder with 20 points and Chase Franz with 17. Keenan Baldus led Canterbury with 12. Eastside advances to face Adams Central on Friday at 6 p.m.

In the late game at Eastside it was Churubusco over South Adams 58-47. Jackson Paul led the Eagles with 17 points while Brayton Bonar added 11. Busco advances to face Bluffton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

In 2A action in Topeka it was Westview over Central Noble 60-47 in a battle of teams that finished 1-2 in the NECC regular season standings. Charlie Yoder led the Warriors with 25 points while Elijah Hales added 15 points. Westview advances to play Whitko at 6 p.m. on Friday.

In the late game at Westview it was Prairie Heights over Bremen 61-43. Prairie Heights moves on to play LaVille at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
