Purdue Fort Wayne record breaking senior John Konchar has been invited to participate in the 2019 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a showcase for the nation’s top collegiate seniors.
Konchar is the first Mastodon to receive an invitation to Portsmouth since David Simon in 2005.
The four-day, 12-game tournament runs April 17-20 in Portsmouth, Va. The event, established in 1953, features 64 seniors from across the nation who will play in front of 200 representatives from all 30 NBA teams as well as scouts from international leagues. Each player is guaranteed to play in a minimum of three games. All games are played at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
In 2018-19, Konchar became the first student-athlete in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history to eclipse 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists and 200 steals in a career. He also totaled a 2.27 assist/turnover ratio to go with 46 career double-doubles.
His 5.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game led the Summit League this year. Konchar’s 19.7 points per game ranked second in the conference while his 8.5 rebounds were third.
