Indiana Tech’s McClain, McWilliams honored by WHAC

The Indiana Tech baseball team took home a bevy of awards from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) on Wednesday as the conference announced its regular season awards.
Senior catcher Glen McClain was a repeat choice as the WHAC Player of the Year while 12th-head head coach Kip McWilliams also repeated as the WHAC Coach of the Year. McClain hit a blistering .429 with 73 hits, 16 doubles, one triple and 15 home runs while driving in 48 runs and scoring 36 times. McWilliams guided the Warriors to their second straight WHAC Championship and won the regular season for the third time under his watch and the eighth time overall. McClain was also named to the Gold Glove Team at catcher with a 99.3 fielding percentage and 32 assists while committing just two errors.
Joining McClain on the All-Conference First-Team was pitchers Charles Dunavan and Dan Shaw and third baseman Branson Dossen. Dunavan went 7-1 as the ace of the Warrior staff while striking out 71 batters in 58.2 innings and sporting a 2.61 ERA with two complete games and one shutout. Shaw was named the conference’s top relief pitcher after throwing 45 innings out of the bullpen and striking out 61 batters while owning a 1.60 ERA and recording two saves. Dossen enjoyed a breakout season as a senior with a .352 batting average and recording 51 hits, 19 doubles, one triple and three home runs while driving in 41 runs and scoring 40 times.
Tech had two players, pitcher Nate McBroom and outfielder Jacob Alvidrez, named to the All-Conference Second-Team. McBroom went 5-3 on the mound with a 3.26 ERA in 58 innings of work while throwing two complete games and striking out 32 batters. Alvidrez hit .337 with 59 hits, eight doubles, one triple, and three home runs while driving in 27 runs and scoring 39 times.
Tanner Perkins was named to the Champions of Character Team while McWilliams was tabbed as the Champions of Character Coach. Landon Bloir, Dossen, McBroom, McClain, Taylor Nychyk, Reese Olden, Perkins, Joe Pratt, Dan Shaw and Alex Vydick were all named to the All-Academic Team.
