Joe Strus

Joe Strus joined the Live Doppler 15 Fury Storm Team as the weekend morning meteorologist in January 2019.
Joe grew up in the southern suburbs of Chicago, but is a Hoosier as he lived in extreme northwestern Indiana. He experienced many types of diverse weather while living near “The Windy City”. He always enjoyed winter storms, but was fearful of powerful summertime severe thunderstorms from a young age. A childhood fear of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes eventually turned into a passion of forecasting for Joe, so much so that he would go on to earn a degree in Meteorology and Climatology from Ball State University in the fall of 2018.
While at Ball State, Joe was a forecaster for WCRD 91.3 FM, Ball State’s radio station, as well as a member of the school’s on air newscast NewsLink Indiana, where he served as the chief weather forecaster in his final semester. In addition to working with these organizations, he gained more professional experience through internships at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana and at WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois.
Aside from the weather forecasting, Joe is a huge sports fan and loves to watch the Chicago Blackhawks and White Sox. He enjoys playing golf in his free time.
