Leo grad Haberkorn named AAC Player of the Week

CINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday with University of Cincinnati's Treg Haberkorn named the Player of the Week and Cam Alldred earning a spot on the Honor Roll.

Haberkorn hit an even .500 this week and was a constant menace to opposing pitchers as he posted a .765 on-base percentage in the four games. In midweek action at Miami, Haberkorn reached base in every plate appearance and did not record an official at-bat as he was walked three times and hit by a pitch once. He was a big part of the Bearcats getting off to a good start in the conference series at Wichita State. On Friday he went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, run scored and two stolen bases. He also made a spectacular diving grab in center field. In the second game he was 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. In the series-clinching win Sunday, Haberkorn was hit again, walked and smacked a three-run homerun late that bolstered UC's lead. He added in two more stolen bases to bring his total to four on the week.

Alldred was also a big part of UC winning the series at Wichita State as he posted one of the best starts of his career on Sunday for the win. The lefty went 7.0 innings with one run, three hits, two walks and a career-high ten strikeouts for the victory.

Haberkorn is the first Bearcat to be named player or pitcher of the week this season. Alldred earns his second Honor Roll recognition. Nine different UC players have now been honored by the conference in its weekly awards.

The Bearcats have a busy week with two midweek games and a conference road series. UC travels to Xavier on Tuesday, Louisville on Wednesday and ECU this upcoming weekend.
