Komets clip Eagles in game three, take 2-1 series lead

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Komets took a two games to one lead in the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night by besting the Colorado Eagles 4-2 at War Memorial Coliseum in front of 6,089 fans.

After a scoreless first period the Komets got on the scoreboard at 9:42 in the second frame as Garrett Thompson netted his sixth goal of the postseason.

Colorado responded with a goal at 12:03 from Jake Marton to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the third period.

In the third frame it took the Komets just 45 seconds to find the net as Gabriel Desjardins would tally his eighth goal of the playoffs on a power play to give Fort Wayne a 2-1 advantage. Less than three minutes later it was Marco Roy finding the net for his second goal of the playoffs, upping the lead to 3-1.

After the Eagles pulled their goalie Marto would beat Michael Houser with just nine seconds remaining to cut the lead to 3-2, but an empty net goal at 19:55 by Desjardins set the final at 4-2.

Houser, who returned between the pipes after missing game two, stopped 27-of-29 shots.

Colorado goalie Joe Cannata was 22-for-25.

The Komets were playing without ECHL regular season MVP Shawn Szydlowski as the forward sat out due to a lower body injury.

Game four is set for 8 p.m. Friday night at the Coliseum with game five on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
