Incumbent wins heated trustee primary race

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Township trustee races usually don't make headlines, but the races in St. Joseph Township garnered a lot of attention.

In Tuesday's primary election, incumbent Sarah Gnagy beat Jeremy Bush and David Ringer on the Republican ticket. Gnagy will now face Democrat Carol Griffin, who was unopposed in the primary, in November's election.

"I'm so grateful to the people of St. Joseph Township for electing me again. The primary was a big deal. There were tough opponents and they were campaigning hard," Gnagy told 15 Finds Out. "I hope [the race] calms down and I'm just going to do my job of running St. Joseph Township and I hope the people see that I do a good job and I come out on top in November too."

As our 15 Finds Out investigation showed last week, Griffin has been raising questions about Ringer, who is also the current fire chief.

Ringer declined an interview on Tuesday night, but sent this text to 15 Finds Out:

"[Sarah] won, not really a need to comment honestly! Congrats to her and I wish her the best in the General election. We shall see what she does with me or the fire department."

Ringer also filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffin. He said regardless of the primary results, he plans to see the lawsuit through.

Griffin said she was happy to see Ringer lose the primary.

"I will congratulate Sarah. She will be a formidable opponent and I will go after the job with all my might," Griffin said.

Bush told 15 Finds Out he's disappointed he lost Tuesday's primary.

"My heart is with St. Joseph Township and I thank all my friends and family for their support and everyone who came out and exercised their right to vote. Now we need to put all our support behind Sarah Gnagy going into November," he said.
