Van Buren teen killed after crashing into semi

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Huntington County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to County Road 600 West and State Road 218 around 7:30 a.m.

According to investigators, Payton M. Boucher, 17, Van Buren was traveling north on the county road when he ran the stop sign at State Road 218.

Boucher collided with the trailer of a semi. Police said the semi dragged Boucher's vehicle several hundred feet before coming to a stop. Boucher was pinned in his vehicle when it burst into flames.

He was pronounced dead by the Huntington County Coroner.

The driver of the semi, 55-year-old Brett A. Godfrey of Huntington, was not hurt.

Investigators said the fire spread to parts of the semi-trailer, which was carrying 1/2 gallon milk containers.

Huntington County Coroner Phil Zahm said Boucher died of blunt force trauma. His death was ruled an accident.
