Turnstone designated as official Paralympic Training Site

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Community leaders and Paralympic athletes gathered at Turnstone Thursday morning to celebrate a big designation: the facility will be the 19th official Paralympic Training Site in the United States.

"On behalf of the US Olympic Committee, I just want to welcome you to the family and thanks for everything you're doing here," Associate Director of Paralympic Sports Performance with the Olympic Committee Katie Baker said.

The facility provides training space and equipment for athletes, with a specialty in goalball.

"We, as USA Men's Goalball are very thankful that Turnstone has given us the opportunity to train at our highest potential, so that we can accomplish our ultimate goal at becoming the best team in the world," Goalball Medalist Daryl Walker added.

The designation gives athletes and coaches unprecedented access to Olympic Committee resources.
