2 horses die in morning barn fire

Fort Wayne, Ind. (WANE) - Two horses are dead and a family is left with rubble where a barn used to be after it caught fire Tuesday morning.

Fire crews responded to the 9300 block of Leesburg Road, near Stahlhut Road around 5:30 a.m. That's just west of Fort Wayne.

The barn was fully engulfed by the time crews got there. Flames and smoke were visible from U.S. 30.

Fire officials confirmed two horses were inside the barn as it burned. The fire was already too big for firefighters to get them out safely.

Fire crews from several departments responded to the fire to help, including multiple tanker trucks that supplied water.

No humans were hurt in the fire, but the barn was a total loss. A pickup truck parked near the barn also appeared to be totaled from the flames.

NewsChannel 15's Michael Kuhn was live at the fire Tuesday. He talked to neighbors in the area, who said the owners were not home.
