Felon wanted in puppy's death arrested

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Around 4:15 Monday afternoon, members of the Fort Wayne Police Department's Gang and Violent Crimes Unit conducted a felony traffic stop in the 3600 block of Avondale Drive. They are investigating David Lee Fowlkes in connection with the killing of a 3-month-old puppy along Bowser Avenue.

Detectives found 261.9 grams of marijuana in separate baggies, a digital scale, and a gun in Fowlkes' car. He was arrested on felony charges of dealing marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon, and operating without a license. 

Fowlkes has a prior robbery conviction and at the time of the arrest had multiple outstanding warrants in DeKalb County. He was taken into custody without incident. Animal Care and Control is still investigating the killing of the puppy.
