95-year-old to receive honorary college degree

FORT WAYNE, Ind.(WANE) - On Saturday, May 5th, 95-year-old Fort Wayne native Bob Heiny will be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Saint Francis.

Heiny has led a remarkable life. He was a Central Catholic basketball star. He played in a national championship basketball game. Fought the Germans in WWII. And raised a family of three girls in Fort Wayne. But despite going to four different universities, he never graduated.

Newschannel 15 first told Bob's story in November, 2017. And as soon as USF learned about his one regret, it immediately offered Bob the degree. He will receive it at the USF commencement ceremony this Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
