2 shot on S. Anthony near Pontiac, police looking for shooter

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are investigating a double shooting near a liquor store early Wednesday morning. They've surrounded a house on Ormsby Street looking for the possible shooter.

Police were dispatched to the Belmont Beverage on South Anthony Boulevard near Pontiac Street around 2:20 a.m. for an audible alarm indicating broken glass, according to FWPD Spokesman Officer Jason Anthony.

Anthony said police responded to the liquor store about the time several people called 911 to report gunshots in the area.

Police began checking the store when they found several pieces of evidence indicating a shooting had taken place, according to Anthony.

Around 2:40 a.m. police were notified of two people who arrived at a hospital who had been shot. Anthony said a woman was in serious condition and a man in critical condition.

Anthony said the woman drove both victims to the hospital.

Near the liquor store, police found multiple shell casings in the road, a hat, a bullet hole in a window pane, and traces of blood. Crime scene technicians marked several items on the ground with numbered placards. They also took photographs and measurements.

Officers located a vehicle at a gas station near Wayne Trace and Drexel with a woman inside. The woman told officers she had dropped a man off at a home in the 2500 block of Ormsby Street who was involved in a shooting.

Police have yet to say how officers tracked the vehicle to the gas station.

As of 5:30 a.m., police have surrounded a home on Ormsby Street and made contact with a man inside the home, according to a law enforcement source.

South Anthony Blvd. was closed near Pontiac for around three hours while police investigated. It was reopened to traffic around 5:30 a.m.

No other details were immediately available.

The incident is under investigation.
