Cedar Point opens for season Saturday

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WANE) - Cedar Point is set to open for the 2018 season on Saturday.

The rides at one of America's largest amusement parks in Sandusky, Ohio will head down their tracks for the first time in the season on Saturday. Guests to Cedar Point in 2018 will find new and exciting attractions.

Steel Vengeance is tops. The tallest, fastest and longest hybrid coaster in the world, Cedar Point's newest coaster will set 10 world records when it premiers this weekend in FrontierTown. The 205-foot Steel Vengeance will offer the steepest drop on a hybrid coaster, most inversions on a hybrid roller coaster, the roller coaster with the most airtime (the feeling of weightlessness over large hills) in the world.

Also new to Cedar Point in 2018, Loop Rawlins, known for his trick roping and whip cracking on the hit show America’s Got Talent, will have several performances on the Gossip Gulch stage. 

Guests will also have new places to stay in 2018, as the beachfront Hotel Breakers opens its new six-story, 669 room  tower adjacent to the main hotel. The Lighthouse Point report on the tip of the Cedar Point peninsula also welcomes 25 new RV sites.      

 The boardwalk along Cedar Point Beach has been expanded for 2018, as well.

  • 50s music from The Swell Tones
  • The Roving Beach Crew
  • Summerdaze Band
  • Acrobatics, biking, dancing and stunts from Vertical Impact
  • Lusty Lil's French Revue
  • PEANUTS Block Party

Cedar Point and its 71 rides and 18 roller coasters will open for the season May 5 and 6. The park is then closed Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 10 before it reopens for daily operation on May 11.
