INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Danica Patrick finished third last year at the Indy 500. But this season, a slow start has taken Patrick out of the spotlight and that is something the she'd like to change in the next 12 days.
Maybe the biggest story of the year is Helio Castroneves going after his fourth win at the Brickyard.
Understandably, Patrick did not want to spend her morning gushing over Castroneves’ bid for history.
"You want me to comment on how exciting it would be to be around Castroneves when he gets his fourth win?" she asked.
"If it's not you it doesn't really matter. Everybody wants their own win. I was saying last night, as I was driving by the billboard that said 'triple triumph' I was like 'He's got three!' Some of us just want one, even. You know? Just one!"
So far, Patrick has just one top 10 finish this season and she's 16th in the overall point standings. But a big showing at the famed oval and her disappointing start would be easily forgotten.
"I'm forgetting about how bad the season is going, myself, because I'm in my favorite place. Everybody around me says 'You're one race away from turning it around and having a good season.' What better place to do that than here?" said Patrick.
What better place, and what better race than the very one that launched her career five years ago.
