MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (CNN/WSVN) - The U.S. post office may be able to handle hail, rain, sleet or snow, but a snake? Not so much.

A snake spotted slithering through a Miami Beach post office forced the place to temporarily shut down.

The snake emerged from a light fixture Friday, spooking employees and customers.

Post office employees called a professional animal trapper for help.

"Basically the employees were concerned what kind of snake it was. We didn't know what it was. The customers would see this snake coming around, and we had to take all precautions to remove the snake," said Manuel Ferrer, spokesperson for the U.S. Post Office.

The nearly two-foot long, non-venomous snake was captured just hours later.
