AUSTIN (KXAN) - During the next 48 hours, every aspect of the life of Pfc. Naser Abdo was will be examined in minute detail, and then examined some more.
Fred Burton, vice president of Counter Terrorism for Stratfor Global Intelligence in Austin, said that within a matter of hours, authorities will know more about the man they believe was planning the attack against military personnel at Fort Hood.
“They are going to have a file pulled on this individual,” said Burton, who oversees Stratfor’s terrorism intelligence service and leads a team of terrorism experts that analyzes events and trends related to terrorism and counterterrorism. “They are going to look at everything in context, from him being a conscientious objector to the pornography on his laptop.”
Of special interest will be whether he has had any contact with anyone overseas, Burton added.
“They are going to be looking at Internet and email, cell phone records, as well as talking to his family and close associates he may have,” said Burton, a former special agent in counterterrorism for the U.S. State Department .
He said any contacts and associations will be viewed with everything from the 2009 incident at Fort Hood and Maj. Nidal Hasan upcoming trial to the recent death of Osama Bin Laden in mind.
Burton pointed out that Abdo allegedly traveled from Fort Campbell, Ky., to Fort Hood . The pilots and the helicopters deployed in the mission to capture Bin Laden were launched from Fort Campbell.
“You always have to react first in the worst case scenario and then let the facts sort things out,” said Burton.
