Conjoined twins separated by operation

Moni and Mukta are six months old

BANGLADESH (CNN) - Moni and Mukta the two conjoined twins, were separated Monday after a two-and-a-half hour long complex operation.

This medical feat was achieved by a 12 member specialized medical team at the Dhaka Shishu Hospital in Dhaka on Monday.

Moniand Mukta born as Siamese twins on Aug. 22, 2009 are now playing in two separate beds. The noble operation done totally free of cost as the parents of the babies were poor and hapless.

Director of the Dhaka Shishu Hospital Professor A.R. Khan said the operation was performed without much difficulty and the twins are doing well after separation. But they need to be kept under intensive care for two more days, he added.
