UNIONVILLE, Tenn. (CNN/WKRN) – Three seniors at a Tennessee high school gave up a big honor to a fellow classmate.

Unionville Community High School junior Scotty Maloney was thrilled to be crowned homecoming king.

He won the competition after three seniors nominated for the title decided to give it to him.

Scotty has Williams Syndrome, a neurological disorder that inhibits learning and speech.

He's been wearing the king medal he won at school since he was awarded the title.

The three seniors say while it was special for Scotty, it was also special for them.

"You know every time we get together, we'll remember how Scotty won homecoming king and we'll always look back and cherish that," high school senior says Drew Gibbs.

Next year, Scotty will crown the school's new homecoming king.
