INDIANAPOLIS - Every year I struggle with selecting presents for the dads in my life. It’s sometimes hard to buy gifts for the “man with everything.” I also do not want to follow my own dad’s advice and just buy him a “pack of new socks.” It’s like giving up!
This year I’ve planned out something else for those special dads I love. Check out these gifts that can work for any special dad in your life.
Special treatment
There are two things that I consider to be perfect gifts for men that they might not otherwise buy themselves — quality shaving essentials and some pampering time.
Some men will balk at the mere suggestion of “a spa day,” but if you can just get them there, I bet their minds will change.
Buying a gift certificate for some “manscaping” just makes sense. Getting a great shave, haircut and manicure can end up being the best gift you can give a man on the go.
Once you’ve got dad all cleaned up, a nice, simple array of bath products is a great follow-up.
Try this kit from The Art of Shaving. It's in in a travel size which is perfect for testing out a new product.
Carry on
Whether for work, travel or everyday use, a great messenger bag is not only utilitarian but can just look good for your hip dad.
A messenger can become an essential accessory for any guy. Take your laptop, gym clothes, work papers or pack up for a long bike ride. You’ll have whatever you need right there, slung across your back.
For the cutting-edge kind of guy, try a messenger bag made with recycled material. Old canvas, tires and seat belts make this bag from Alchemy strikingly hip as well as helping to lessen your eco-footprint.

Fit to be tied
If you just can’t decide what to get dad, there is always the back-up plan: a tie.
Just don’t get the one with the lights or grab a tie right off the shelf. Get something fresh and fashionable.
One of my favorite Etsy stores for men is Cyberoptix. Their hand-screenprinted ties are not only good quality, but unique and unusual.
We’re not talking the big, ugly tie, either, but really subtle accessories that give an outfit that hint of urban modern sophistication.
As a small boutique company, Cyberoptix boasts affordable-but-luxurious products for men and their pieces are made in small runs, so you can give dad a limited edition gift. It’s a great way to stick with a traditional Father’s Day gift by adding a fashion-forward twist.
Take a spin through the Cyberoptix Etsy store.
