FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) According to the U.S. Drought Monitor most of northeastern Indiana is now in the D2 drought category which is considered a severe drought.
43 counties throughout Indiana have issued burn bans in response to the fire hazard the hot, dry weather has created.
The Fort Wayne area has only received 10.41" of rain this year, more than 7" less than the average of 17.70." There has only been about .06″ of rain for the month of June.
Some areas in the southwestern part of Indiana are in the D3 category, which is considered extreme drought conditions.
