FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana has announced Allen County and 35 other counties in Indiana have been declared as being primary natural disaster areas because of losses caused by extreme drought.

"Indiana FSA and its employees are committed to helping farmers navigate the multitude of programs that may be available in eligible counties," said Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director of USDA's FSA. "The Summer of 2012 will not be long forgotten by those producers and their families that were negatively impacted by severe dry weather. USDA is here to assist."

Farm operators in these areas are eligible for low interest emergency (EM) loans from the FSA as part of the natural disaster assistance.

Farmers in 19 other counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties share borders with counties within the primary natural disaster areas.

For more information on assistance available for those dealing with the drought can be found at http://www.usda.gov/disaster .
