FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- The Indiana State Police reported that most roadways range from partially snow covered to completely snow and ice covered early Friday morning.
I-69 is reported as partially snow covered. As of 5 a.m., there was moderate snowfall north of SR 18.
However, the amount of snow is not as much of an issue as the blowing snow.
Visibility is extremely poor in most rural areas; less than 100 ft. at times.
ISP Region II has had very few reported slide offs and crashes since midnight; specifically two for both the Peru District and the Fort Wayne district combined. However, when the morning commute picked up, several slide-offs were reported around US 24 and I-469 and around Airport Expressway as well.
Vehicle traffic has been very light overnight.
ISP is urging motorists to take every precaution if heading out Friday morning as travel will be significantly more hazardous and slow going.
Make sure that all of your vehicle’s windows are cleared of snow and ice to allow the greatest amount of vision and also, even during the daylight hours, that your headlights are on (even if you have to manually turn them on).
