MILFORD, Ind. (WANE) - A Milford woman was killed after her truck was hit by a train Monday afternoon.
According to police, Carolyn Handy, 77, was driving eastbound on Emeline Street when witnesses said she pulled into the path of a southbound Norfolk Southern freight train at the last minute.
Firefighters pulled Hardy from the truck and medics took her to Parkview Regional Medical Center with head and internal injuries. Police said she died about two hours later as a result of those injuries.
The train conductor and engineer told police they had been activating their whistle and bell extensively through town at the various crossings.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
