FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A minivan barely missed a jewelry store after crashing through a light pole on the city's southwest side early Tuesday morning.

Around 1:20 a.m., Fort Wayne police were called to the 4300 block of West Jefferson Boulevard and found a minivan sitting on top of a large concrete block next to Bradley Gough Diamonds .

According to police, a man driving a minivan said he was attempting to turn onto West Jefferson Boulevard from Apple Glen Boulevard when his van rapidly accelerated.

The van struck a light pole and ripped the cement block it was attached to out of the ground. The van drug the cement block and light pole about forty feet across the parking lot and came to a stop about six feet away from the jewelry store building.

A portion of the light pole pierced the building, but it's not known if it damaged anything inside the building. The van came to a stop on top of the cement block, slightly tipping to one side.

The driver and his female passenger were not hurt.

Police said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

An investigating officer told NewsChannel 15 they could not rule out some type of mechanical failure with the vehicle.

No citations were issued.
