FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A 13-year-old girl was hospitalized Wednesday morning in serious condition after she was hit by a car while on the way to her bus stop.
According to witnesses interviewed by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the girl was crossing the 2400 block of Broadway Street when a car heading south without its lights on hit her. The driver then turned the car's lights on and kept going.
The vehicle is described as a late model car, tan in color with a large dent on the driver's side. The car may also have had a broken window from the crash. Police believe it would be a large automobile, similar in size to an Oldsmobile 98. Witnesses were only able to describe the driver as being a white male.
The girl is a student at Fort Wayne Community Schools and was making her way to a bus stop in the 1000 block of West Creighton Avenue. Her identity has not been released and she was listed as being in serious but stable condition as of 1:30 pm.
Anyone with information about the vehicle involved in the incident should call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
