FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Creighton Avenue is now back open after being closed for several hours. The closure happened when an SUV hit a light pole and smacked head-on into a utility pole before it burst into flames early Thursday morning.
According to police, shortly before 4 a.m. the SUV was traveling west on Creighton Avenue near Gay Street when it left the road and crashed through a light pole. The SUV then swiped a second pole before hitting a utility pole head-on.
When police and firefighters arrived the SUV was fully engulfed in flames. Officers on scene said no one was in the vehicle when they arrived and no was around the accident afterwards.
At the time of the accident, police said the SUV had not been reported stolen.
The roadway was closed between Gay Street and John Street while utility crews repaired the pole and wires.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
