FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are investigating a crash that ended up with an SUV slamming into a downtown building.
Just after midnight Tuesday, police said an SUV was traveling east on East Wayne Street when the driver approached the intersection with Clay Street.
Police said they did not know if the driver failed to stop at the blinking red traffic light, but the SUV ended up being hit by a box truck that was traveling south on Clay Street. During overnight hours, Clay Street traffic has a blinking yellow traffic light, while traffic on East Wayne has a blinking red light.
The impact spun the SUV which then jumped a sidewalk, split several light poles, and crashed head-first into the Foellinger Foundation building on the corner.
No one was injured.
The SUV's impact on the building shattered several windows. The building was not occupied at the time of the crash.
The SUV sustained heavy damage. The box truck had a small dent on the front. The driver was able to drive the truck away without any problems.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
