HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) – Mike and Pamela Stanley have lived in their house for 33 years. Now they are dealing with the damage an SUV caused their home early Sunday morning.
According to the Huntington Police Department a driver veered off the road around 2:40 a.m. while officers were attempting to pull the vehicle over for speeding.
The SUV just missed two people on the sidewalk, hit a telephone pole and a large evergreen tree before it crashed into the home at 1203 1st Street.
The man driving was taken to the local hospital then airlifted to Fort Wayne. His name, the extent of his injuries and current condition have not been released. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
The Stanleys were not injured. They were sleeping when the crash occurred.
"I haven't sorted out all [of] my feelings yet, but it's just a house," Mike Stanley said. "We didn't get hurt. I feel for [the driver] and his relatives and family."
An hour after the crash, while police continued their investigation at the scene, a woman with a medical emergency drove to the site which was full of responders.
She was heading to the hospital for help with her unconscious husband.
Emergency personnel performed CPR on the man who was reportedly suffering a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
