HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana State Police (ISP) are hoping the public can help them find the driver of a semi truck who may have driven through crash debris on U. S. 31 and hit a victim’s body early Thursday morning.
According to ISP, just before 4 a.m., troopers were called to a crash on U.S. 31 at Howard County Road 500 South, where a woman was killed after being thrown from her Jeep.
Investigators believe Darian Davis, 21, Sharpsville was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on U.S. 31 at a high rate of speed when the right tires partially traveled off the east side of the road.
Davis lost control and flipped the SUV at least four times. Police do not believe she was wearing a seat belt and was ejected onto U.S. 31.
Investigators believe Davis was then hit by a semi pulling a box trailer.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Howard County Coroner, Jay Price. Early indications are that Davis died as a result of the crash, not from being hit by the semi.
Witnesses told police the semi drove through the crash debris field shortly after the crash, but they were not able to get any identifying information on the truck.
Police do not know if the driver was aware that the truck had possibly hit Davis’ body.
The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Trooper Wendell Beachy at 765-473-6666.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
