FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A semi jack-knifed and crashed into the median wall on northbound I-469 near mile marker 22 around 9:20 a.m. on Saturday.
The northbound lanes were all back open by 12:30 p.m. but I-469 southbound was restricted to one lane for more than five hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
Officials told NewsChannel 15 a semi driving northbound on I-469 lost control and hopped the median wall separating the south and northbound lanes. The semi slid, with the cab partially over the wall into the southbound side and the trailer on the northbound side, for several yards and hit a car driving southbound.
Officials said the driver of the car that was hit was in good condition but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
Officials on the scene said it the winter conditions and speed may have contributed to the accident.
Shortly after the crash, the Sheriff's Department told NewsChannel 15 it would take some time to move the semi off the median wall and clear the scene.
According to the Sheriff's Department, they chained the cab of the semi to a payloader (a type of tractor), the payloader lifted the front attachment, lifting the cab of the semi off the wall. The semi was then backed up back into the northbound side of I-469 and then dropped by the payloader. The semi was then towed off the scene.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
