INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Officials say the second EMT injured in Saturday's ambulance accident has died from injuries sustained in the incident.
Officers say Cody Medley passed away at Wishard Hospital early Sunday.
"We grieve with our IEMS family as we learn of the passing of Specialist Cody Medley," said Troy Riggs, director of the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Safety. “Please keep his family and his friends in your thoughts and prayers."
EMS officials will hold a press conference at 12 p.m. Sunday to talk about Medley's passing.
Medley, 22, joined the IEMS team in 2010. He was a member of the Sunman Fire Department before joining the IEMS.
“It is with a heavy heart I announce that another of our IEMS brothers has passed. Cody was a skilled paramedic, a loyal colleague and a wonderful friend,” said Dr. Charles Miramonti, chief of Indianapolis EMS. “While the past 28 hours have been filled with extraordinary grief, loss and sadness, we've come together to remember two extraordinary young men. I also once again want to recognize the tremendous outpouring of support from our Department of Public Safety family, our Health and Hospital Corporation and Wishard family, and the entire community for our fallen colleague.”
Saturday, officials announced IEMS Private Timothy C. McCormick, 24, had died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Officers say the ambulance was struck by a passenger car while going through the intersection of Senate Avenue and St. Clair around 3:37 a.m. Saturday. The ambulance had the right of way.
When crews arrived on scene, they found an ambulance on its side. The force of the impact caused the ambulance to slide into a parked vehicle.
