WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) - Police closed all railroad crossings in Warsaw from Fort Wayne Street south after a train struck a car Friday morning.
Warsaw police said a westbound Lexus SUV was hit by a northbound train in the driver's side door at the Market Street crossing. The 132 car train pushed the SUV to Main Street before it dislodged from the train engine.
Officials said the Market Street crossing has railroad crossing signals but no gates.
Police said the driver, Sandra Casanova, 42, of Fort Wayne, was "shaken up" but she did not complain of any injuries. She was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital to be checked out, according to police.
Casanova told police that she did not see the activated crossing lights and did not hear the train whistle.
Warsaw police said the crossings were working at the time of the crash.
Police said the crossings were closed for around an hour while Norfolk & Southern supervisors examined the train before moving it.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
