FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Van Buren Street was closed early Friday afternoon after the driver of a pickup failed to yield to a police officer who was driving with lights and siren on Washington Boulevard.
The accident took place shortly after noon at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Washington Boulevard.
According to police, a squad car had stopped at the intersection to "hold" traffic so other units could go through safely. Another squad was heading west on Washington when the traffic signal turned green for vehicles on Van Buren. The driver of a green pickup heading north on Van Buren didn't hear the siren or notice the emergency lights and proceeded into the intersection. The squad car hit the pickup, which sent it into the front yard of a home.
The squad car then careened into a red pickup on Van Buren that was stopped in the southbound lane of Van Buren.
No one involved in the incident was injured very seriously according to police.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
