Police: Man intentionally jumps in front of medics vehicle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are investigating a pedestrian accident involving an SUV operated by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.

Police were responding to an unknown problem in the 500 block of East Breckenridge Street around 12:30 a.m. Friday, when they found a TRAA supervisor administering medical attention to a man in the street.

Further investigation revealed the victim might have intentionally jumped in front of the TRAA SUV, according to police.

The man was transported by ambulance to a hospital in serious condition. He was later downgraded to critical condition by doctors.

FWPD Spokesperson Officer Jason Anthony told NewsChannel 15 prior to the accident the victim was involved in some type of domestic dispute with a female inside a car in the same area. At some point, he got out of the car and began jumping on the hood of the car. When he stopped, the woman inside took off in the vehicle.

A short time later the TRAA SUV was traveling east on Brackenridge Street when the man might have jumped in front of or underneath the SUV.

The victim's cell phone, a shoe, and a watch were visible in the middle of the street.

A police report said the man was conscious and responsive at the scene.

The TRAA supervisor was not hurt in the accident and there was no visible damage to the vehicle. Company protocol mandates a drug test for the supervisor following the accident.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
