FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police closed South Clinton Street near South Side High School early Wednesday morning while crews investigated a crash.
A little before 4 a.m. Wednesday, police said a man hit a large tree and then crashed into a fence around the 3300 block of S. Clinton St.
The driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police believe speed and alcohol might have been factors in the crash.
Police officers recovered a stolen gun from the vehicle, according to Fort Wayne Police Department spokesperson Officer Chris Felton.
The name of the driver has not been released.
Debris from the vehicle was scattered for about a hundred feet along Clinton. After hitting the tree, the vehicle ended up in a fence next to South Side High School's football field.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department assisted at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
South Clinton was closed for about two hours while crews cleared the road and investigated the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
