GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A Kokomo man was killed Tuesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a dump truck on State Road 22 near County Road 900 West in Grant County.
According to Indiana State Police, the dump truck was traveling east on State Road 22, when for an unknown reason, a westbound pickup truck driven by Nicholas Loffredo, 65, crossed the center line. The driver of the dump truck drove into a ditch to try and avoid the collision. Despite the maneuver, the pickup struck the dump truck on the rear passenger side.
Loffredo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner. Investigators believe Loffredo may have suffered some sort of medical episode and that may have caused the crash. It is not known if he died from the crash or from the medical issue. Loffredo was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the dump truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
