COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) - A man from New Jersey died after the vehicle he was driving rolled several times along U.S. 30 Wednesday evening.
According to a police report, around 8:50 p.m., John Knauer, 50, Wenonah, NJ, was traveling west on U.S. 30 near County Road 300 West just west of Columbia City. Knauer was passing another vehicle when he attempted to get back into the right lane. Icy conditions on the road caused him to lose control of his SUV, rolling several times.
Knauer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the vehicle, Daniel Nevius, 26, Gloucester, NJ, and John Knauer, Jr., 31, Deptford, NJ, were transported to Parkview Regional in Fort Wayne. Nevius was treated for leg pain and Knauer, Jr. was treated for a right shoulder injury.
The report did not state their conditions.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
