FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The driver of a red pickup truck that ran a red light and caused a chain reaction accident involving five cars had a blood alcohol content of .15 percent.
The Fort Wayne Police Department asked people to avoid the intersection of Coldwater and Coliseum for several hours after a multi-car accident at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Police tell NewsChannel 15 that at least five cars were involved in the accident. A red pickup truck heading north on Coldwater blew through a red light, hit a car driving east on Coliseum, causing the chain reaction accident.
The driver of second car that was hit was taken to a local hospital in fair condition. No other injuries were reported. Four of the five vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Stephen C. Kearney, 62, the driver of the red pick-up that ran the red light, had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 percent. The legal limit in Indiana is .08 percent.
Kearney was arrested and taken to the Allen County Jail on two counts of OWI and was issued a citation for disregarding automatic signal.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
