FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Near freezing temperatures and a weather system stretching from Louisiana to Maine is dropping some mixed precipitation across portions of the NewsChannel 15 viewing area.

The primary area is Fort Wayne and areas south (Adams, Wells, Blackford, Jay, Huntington, and Whitley. In Ohio, Paulding and Van Wert counties are also seeing mixed precipitation.

WANE-TV Chief Meteorologist Jonathon Conder said, "Look for another round of mixed precipitation to move in by daybreak with periods of sleet, freezing rain and rain expected.  Ice accumulations appear to be light, but look for slick roads and a light coating of ice on the roads, trees and power lines."

Temperatures during the overnight hours were about a degree or two below freezing. Late Wednesday night sheriff's dispatchers in Adams, Wells, and Huntington counties said they had worked some minor accidents and slide-offs.

Drivers in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio should use extreme caution on the roadways. Ice during the darker hours is not clearly visible. Some side streets and lesser traveled roadways are very slick and dangerous.
