NAPPANEE, Ind. (WANE) - A Warsaw man was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition after he jumped from a moving vehicle Friday morning.
Police said they responded to a 911 call around 5:40 a.m. and found Jerry Belcher, 21, of Warsaw unconscious in a ditch near County Road 800 West just south of County Road 850 North, south of Nappanee. Belcher was suffering from extensive head injuries.
According to officials, Belcher was in the passenger seat of a Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickup truck. His father, Johnny Belcher, 41, Warsaw, was driving.
As the two were driving to work together, they got into a verbal argument. According to police, while his father was driving northbound on County Road 800 West, Belcher suddenly opened the front passenger side door and jumped from the truck.
Police said Belcher's father immediately stopped and went back to find his son, who was in a ditch area next to the road.
Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team investigators said there was also a third person, who was siting in the second row of seats inside the pickup truck, that confirmed the same details of the accident.
According to police, the incident is still under investigation.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
