KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A Larwill man is in critical condition after he was thrown out of his vehicle during an early morning crash Sunday in Kosciusko County.
Police said the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on State Road 14 near the intersection of Packerton Road.
The driver, Jeffery Reiff, 25, of Larwill, was found outside of his vehicle. Samaritan airlifted him to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne in critical condition. Brian Lardino, 25, of Silver Lake, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital in fair condition.
Crash investigators said they believe Reiff was going east on State Road 14 and went off the side of the road. He then overcorrected and started to skid across State Road 14. The vehicle hit an embankment, went airport and hit a utility pole. That caused the vehicle to roll several times, landing on its top. Reiff was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out of the vehicle. Lardino was wearing a seat belt.
Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team members said the crash is still under investigation pending alcohol and drug lab results. Officers believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
