ISP warns of slick conditions on I-69

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – According to Indiana State Police, Interstate 69 near the 73 mile marker in Huntington County is extremely slick and hazardous.

There have been numerous slide offs and vehicle crashes in that area and traffic may be slowed and/or delayed while emergency crews work.

ISP also reported that it is beginning to become icy and slick near the 105 and 106 mile markers as well.

Troopers are also working slide-offs and crashes in Grant County from the 57 mile up to the 71 mile marker.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible.

Anyone driving in the area should expect delays both northbound and southbound because of lane restrictions, due to the crashes and slide offs.

The main cause factor for a majority of the crashes was motorists traveling too fast on slick roads. When roads become wet or are covered with snow or ice motorists should reduce the speed of their vehicles

Motorists should expect emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and snow removal equipment in the area.

The Indiana State Police reminds motorists to slow their speed and increase their following distances to the vehicles around them. Driving behavior is the primary cause of crashes, NOT the weather.

Motorists can also find road and weather information prior to traveling by calling (800) 261-ROAD (7623) or by visiting www.TrafficWise.in.gov .
