FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Icy conditions caused a vehicle to slide off Bass Road over Interstate 69 Thursday, causing traffic delays for morning commuters.
Several vehicles in the area were seen with hazard lights on, showing caution while crossing the icy bridge.
Indiana State Police said as the rain continued to fall, it quickly turned into ice on the roadways.
Primary and secondary roadways in northeast Indiana are mostly covered with a layer of ice making driving hazardous and slow going.
ISP said drivers are reminded and encouraged to modify their driving behavior in these conditions. While the roadway may look wet, the probability exists that it is black ice and with higher than recommended speeds, could contribute to a vehicle losing control. Slower speeds, increased following distances, and overall attention to surroundings will go a long way in helping to ensure a safe travel.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has made it easy to check road conditions around the state.
